How a ragtag band of created Wikipedia
This video presentation was very good at explaining how Wikipedia is created and maintained. I don't understand why some scholars are still so anti-wiki. I thought the "neoNazi math statement was pretty funny too!
The two articles for which links were provided to the ALA are not appearing...

I find that people are way too uptight about wikis, too. I work in the kid's department of a busy library. Wikipedia is so useful to me in my private and professional life--especially since sometimes kids ask the craziest questions and books haven't been written on certain current topics yet. I don't understand why some people get so hot and bothered about wikis. They don't have to use them if they don't like them. :)
I, too, don't understand the contempt for wikipedia. Obviously there are flaws, as there are with any open source software. But it clearly has a good policy and clearly has a high level of accuracy. The key, I think, is being discriminate in choosing your articles. Some articles are going more flawed than others, such as a current news topics, but other, more specialized topics (think physics) are going to have a high level of accuracy.
Anyway, that's my rant. I'm excited about the future of wikis.
